March 30, 2018 - Spotlights

Name: Marissa Conant

Postition: Journeyman Plumber

Company: E.M. Duggan, Inc.

Years in the A/E/C Industry: 14 years

What associations or organizations are you a member of? Plumbers Union Local 12

Why choose the A/E/C Industry? I was placed into the plumbing program mistakenly in high school, then I fell in love with the trade and the opportunities that it had to offer.

Advice/Keys to Success: My advice would be to not worry about what anyone else is doing or the work that they are doing. To always strive to be your own personal best and to never stop pushing yourself to be better regardless of gender, age, or race. You can do it.

If you had a mentor in your career, who was it and what did they teach you? My mentor was Chuck Ahl. From day one he showed me the utmost respect and treated me as an equal and was open to ideas that I had, even as a first year apprentice. He taught me many valuable skills of  the trade, pushed me to set/achieve my goals and definitely kept me on my toes. I am forever grateful.
