How many years have you been in your current field? 30

Who are three women – living or dead – that you would like to have drinks with and why?

1. Architect Denise Scott Brown, one of the founding partners in Philadelphia firm Venturi, Scott Brown & Associates. She received the Jane Drew prize; an architecture award given annually by the Architects’ Journal. The award recognizes women who promote innovation, diversity, and inclusiveness in the field of architecture.

2. Melissa Gates, philanthropist at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is committed to promoting women’s equality around the world.

3. Oprah, well she is Oprah, is there anything she hasn’t done? Who wouldn’t want to have a drink with her?

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job was in a small architectural office in New York City. We designed high end retail stores all over the country, and I learned to manage the projects from start to finish. We were responsible for the drawings, hiring the contractor in each local area, and then visiting the sites during construction through the store opening. It was fast paced and attention to detail was critical. It taught me to “own” the project, you had to know all the facets of it to get it completed on time and on budget. A valuable lesson that has stayed with me.
