FM Global breaking ground

Johnston, RI FM Global broke ground on a new $60 million, 340,000 s/f facility on 93 acres it owns off Central Ave. The project is slated to be completed by mid-2009.

Approximately 100 invited guests, employees and VIPs attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Local, state and company officials in attendance included: Shivan Subramaniam, FM Global chairman and chief executive officer; Thomas Dusel, president and chief operating officer of Hobbs Brook Management (FM Global's real estate company); governor Donald Carcieri; Saul Kaplan, executive director, R.I. Economic Development Corp.; mayor Joseph Polisena; and Bradford Dimeo, president of Dimeo Construction Co.

Designs for the new project depict a 4-story office building and tri-level parking structure located behind the AIPSO building and softball field on Central Ave. The office building will offer the same square footage as FM Global's existing headquarters, but will make more efficient use of the space—all on a smaller footprint of land. The facility also will be scalable, with the ability to accommodate more employees and technology infrastructure as FM Global's business grows. The building will be designed, constructed and operated as a high-performance green building and is expected to be LEED-certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The project team includes Dimeo Const., Hobbs Brook Management LLC, Vision 3 Architects and Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc.
