Harwich, MA A 20,200 s/f municipal safety facility, with a price tag of $8.8 million, will soon rise on Sisson Rd.

Bufftree Building Co. has broken ground for the building that will function as a central command center for the town's police and fire departments. Currently, the police department operates out of a 50-year-old structure adjacent to the existing fire station that will also undergo renovations. On July 20th, the town threw a groundbreaking party to celebrate the start of construction and invited residents to a family cookout.

"The town and community of Harwich have shown great pride and interest in the new Harwich public safety facility," said Michael Woodby, project superintendent for Bufftree Building Co. "The building, which will share a common vestibule with the fire department, will become the new police station, replacing the old, shingled structure on the site. It is a practical, well-designed building with state-of-the-art services, which, when fully constructed, will not only serve as a long-lasting public facility, but will also be an aesthetically pleasing addition to the community."

The project is expected to take 16 months to complete.

The architect is Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc. The design calls for conventional steel framing with a fiber cement siding and brick veneer, a traditional gable roof, and fiberglass windows and aluminum entrance doors.

SouthCoast-based Bufftree Building Company is also building a new fire and rescue station for the Cape Cod town of Wellfleet.
