On October 11, 100 people gathered at 960 Main in downtown Hartford to congratulate and celebrate three outstanding buildings on their 2012 TOBY Award. The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Award is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry recognizing excellence in building management, operational efficiency, tenant retention, emergency planning and community impact. The competition consists of three levels of judging. The first level of competition is held at the local level by BOMA associations. Winning entries then have the opportunity to advance to the regional level in each of the eight North American regions of BOMA International. Finally, regional winners advance to the international level.
The TOBY committee worked for many months planning this great event. The following people worked together to make the night successful and visited the entries to judge those properties: Peter Caniano, Mike Diamond, Dana Finnegan, India Liddell, Karen Tietjen, Mike Cody and Pam Bayer-Thank you again for your time.
340 West Newberry Road in Bloomfield won in the Under 100,000 s/f category. This property is owned and managed by Griffin Land.
Electric Boat/New London Campus won in the 500,000 -1 million s/f category. This property is owned by General Dynamics and managed by Jones Lang LaSalle.
2 Central Avenue in New Hartford won in the Historical category. This property is owned by Two Central Place, LLC and managed by Jones Lang LaSalle.
Also honored that evening: was the 2012 Member of the Year, Wes Nicoll, assistant property manager at Griffin Land. Wes is the incoming Greater Hartford BOMA President and is on many committees, including Education, TOBY Awards and Membership.
Dave Jones of Konover Commercial Corporation was named 2012 Engineer of the Year. Dave has been with Konover since 1999.
Dave Berthold, vice president of Business Development at Performance Environmental Services was named the 2012 Allied Member of the Year. Dave sits on many committees, including Golf, Programs, Membership and the TOBY Awards.
I am honored and pleased to announce that the company I work for, EDENS, was named 2012 Corporate Honoree of the Year. It has been my pleasure to work with so many fine commercial real estate professionals and EDENS is honored to be recognized by the BOMA members as a corporate supporter of the Association.
Many thanks to those who helped put this awards dinner together and those who attended. All commercial real estate owners, developers and property managers should contact the executive office to learn more about entering their property in next year's TOBY competition.
