An independent economic study released by the New Hampshire Clean Tech Council (NHCTC) shows that the New Hampshire cleantech sector accounts for a significant and growing share of NewHampshire's economy with substantial growth potential in the near future.
According to the report, there are now an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 N.H. workers employed by the cleantech industry. The average annual wage in a cleantech-associated job is about 50% higher than the state average annual wage, and cleantech industries have 150% greater economic output than non cleantech-associated industries.
"New Hampshire has the potential to expand its economy and employment, enhance energy security, and reduce exported energy dollars by developing policies that support the growth of the cleantech sector in the state," said George Bald, former commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development.
Cleantech is a general term applied to innovative technologies, services, and products that enhance environmental performance in the energy, construction, transportation, utility, and waste industries, mostly through applications that focus on energy. Cleantech has been rapidly growing both in the U.S. and worldwide, representing a $2.5 trillion global business today that is estimated to double to $5 trillion in the next decade.
