Stratford, CT Aptar Stratford was recently recognized with a 2015 Northeast Business Leaders for Energy Efficiency award for their extensive commitment to efficiency and measures that reduced the company’s annual energy cost by $121,000. The Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) presented the award to Aptar for efforts associated with the company’s Stratford facility, which focuses mainly on packaging beauty and home products. Within the last 5 years, Aptar Stratford has had a strong partnership with The United Illuminating Company (UI) to help identify and utilize technical and financial assistance programs as part of the Energize Connecticut initiative, including the Energy Conscious Blueprint program. Aptar has significantly reduced its carbon footprint—and reached ROI targets that qualify the company for additional efficiency project funds. Among several major energy saving projects, Aptar worked with UI to design a warehouse that incorporated high efficiency rooftop air conditioning units, high efficiency lighting and occupancy sensors and an energy efficient furnace. The HVAC roof-top units are part of a new pilot Energy Management System (EMS) program that is modular and wireless, providing real-time information on energy consumption, savings, and maintenance issues. Even high efficiency charging units are now utilized to charge forklift batteries, which take less time to charge and therefore make operations more efficient. To demonstrate its full commitment to energy efficiency, Aptar has created a far-reaching policy called Vision 2030.
Aptar remains committed to incorporating environmental sustainability into its business decisions, monitoring emerging environmental trends, and engaging with key stakeholders—inside and outside the company. Future projects include additional lighting upgrades, adding seven more HVAC units to the EMS, placing precision air nozzles on air conveyance machines, and retrofitting assembly machines with automatic shut-offs when they’re not operational.
Energize Connecticut programs help customers save money and use clean, affordable energy. The programs are a partnership of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Connecticut Green bank, and local electric and gas utilities and are funded by a charge on customer energy bills.
