Constructing the new station for University of Massachusetts police using environmentally friendly techniques and meeting energy-efficiency and sustainability standards has earned CTA Construction Inc. the Green Building Award from the Mass. chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.
CTA Const. handled the $12.5 million building that opened in April at 585 East Pleasant St.
The 27,000 s/f building, designed by Caolo & Bieniek Associates Inc., was built to the standards of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold level, a certification system administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
"CTA Construction was proud to go the extra mile in using green products and green methods in order to build a facility that is not only energy efficient, but was constructed in an environmentally friendly manner. We are pleased to share this award with the UMass community in honor of their commitment to the environment," said Jeffrey Hazelwood, project executive for CTA.
CTA Const. won two additional awards for its work on a Hingham elementary school and a public works building in Weston this year.
"CTA's work represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Greg Beeman, president of the ABC Mass. chapter. "The company should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry."
