Boston, MA FirstService Residential, one of the largest residential property management company in the U.S and Canada, prides itself on giving back to the community. Last month alone the FirstService Residential Massachusetts team hosted the Children’s Hospital Blood Mobile; and also contributed towards Crayons for Kids, supplying writing materials to schools and hospitals for underprivileged children.
Nationally, FirstService Residential has worked with Habitat for Humanity as well as major flood, hurricane, and fire victims across our country. It is their company culture and core values that drive their incredible social purpose efforts in order to lend a helping hand and donate their time and love to make a lasting impact on the communities we serve. All of these ongoing causes are considered equally as important, and at the same time afford a great sense of humility to all those who generously participate.
There are many reasons to give back and, sometimes quite unexpectedly, causes hit too close to home. In May of 2017, without much warning, one of our own Massachusetts team members became the unlikely victim of one of their causes. Ilana Maimon began experiencing back pain and extreme discomfort which did not subside. After many visits with her internist, and subsequent visits to the respected doctors at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Ilana was sadly diagnosed with Grade 3 Synovial Sarcoma. This is a rare, stubborn, and aggressive cancer; but with the knowledge, guidance, and the excellent care given at Dana-Farber, this diagnosis didn’t stand a chance.
At FirstService Residential, Ilana was given all the time she needed to recuperate and to recover to her best-self. They are happy to report, after bravely experiencing many months of grueling chemotherapy and radiation, Ilana is now thriving and back to work at her position as a market research coordinator.
On Sunday, September 23, the 30th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is taking place with four different walk route options. Walkers can register for the full Boston marathon route, a half marathon, a 10k or a 5k. The FirstService Residential Team will be tackling the 5k route, planning to commence at 1:45 p.m. at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute on Longwood Ave. in Brookline. Please consider joining them.

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has an on-site laboratory wing where over 900 research studies are carried out each year. This enables physicians and scientists to work harmoniously on each patient’s unique needs. Last year’s walk raised over $8.7 million towards finding a cure with over 9,300 participants giving of their time and donations. All proceeds go to children and adult patient care as well as to the fantastic research efforts.
Ilana is a shining example of the quality of care that is provided with the help of donations from the community at large. The research and trials that take place every day at Dana-Farber are second to none, and the strides that are made can be directly contributed to walks and fundraising events such as these. This ongoing research would not be possible if it weren’t for the generosity of people like you.
