IFMA Boston to host One-Day Conference for facility managers on March 27

March 08, 2019 - Front Section

Waltham, MA The Boston chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), a non-profit organization that supports facility managers (FMs) throughout every stage of their career, has planned an upcoming one-day conference: FMForward. The conference will be held on March 27, at Bentley College, starting at 8 a.m. The event is free for IFMA Boston members and $450 per ticket for non-members.

FMForward will provide attendees with insights on facility management strategies, technologies, and best practices for navigating the ever-changing FM landscape. “One of the biggest challenges our members face is staying on top of everything related to the FM field,” said Jennessa Durrani, executive director of IFMA Boston. “Because of the breadth and depth of the build environment in general–not to mention how fast everything changes, thanks to the Internet of Things and emerging trends like AI—we believe a yearly, one-day conference is an excellent way to provide a comprehensive overview of what FMs need to know, right now, to do their jobs better.”

The conference will commence with breakfast and a keynote address, “You’re Moving My Cheese Again? The Human Side of Change” - delivered by Deborah Easton, a communications skills consultant with Kent State University.

A series of 20-minute “Tech Talks” inspired by the famous “TED Talks” format will follow the keynote address.

Subjects will include the following:

• Tips for evaluating computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to help better control assets, workflow, and vendors;

• The rewards and challenges of using disruptive technologies, such as augmented reality, in managing real estate;

• Strategies for better warehousing and storage of assets; and

• How one organization successfully designed a workplace that fosters engagement, productivity, health and well-being, and the cross-pollination of work.

Afternoon sessions will be devoted to career development. Topics will include understanding FM certifications, communicating with influence, and interpreting your DISC assessment for relationship building. Lunch will be provided, and a cocktail reception will kick off at 4:00 p.m., concluding the event. Exhibitors will be on hand as well with information on products and services relevant to the FM industry.

Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ifmaboston.org.
