Norwood, MA JC&A, Troika, Northstar Project & Real Estate Services and AHA Consulting Engineers reached a significant milestone last month in the construction of the Skating Club of Boston’s all-new 179,000 s/f, training facility. The final beam was raised into place during a “topping off” ceremony held at the site of the new building. The facility is located at 750 University Ave.

The multi-million dollar, three-rink facility will feature a sports injury prevention and strength training center, dance studio, club and team locker rooms, coaches lounge, ticket office, lobby café, club trophy room, library, multiple guest areas and meeting rooms, and an apparel and equipment store.

“The transformation of this site in such a short amount of time is already so significant, and the raising of this final beam brings us one step closer to opening this beautiful and amazing facility next summer,” said Joe Blount, president, The Skating Club of Boston. “We are excited that so many club supporters came out for the event today to celebrate this milestone.  If it weren’t for them, this new facility wouldn’t be possible.”

The center of the action of the new building will be an Olympic-size arena called The Performance Center that will seat 2,500 spectators and host exhibitions, shows and competitions for figure skating and short-track speed skating. The second rink will be a dedicated figure-skating rink for training and competitive events with 1,500 seats, and the third will be an NHL-sized, multi-purpose rink with 400 seats, equipped for hockey play.

The new facility will also include the new Marilyn Kasputys Branch of the Micheli Center, a 7,000 s/f area, designed by fitness, injury prevention and sports & wellness professionals, that will have private offices for athlete evaluations, examinations, physical therapy, x-ray imaging, sports psychology and nutritional counseling.

“We’re so proud to be part of this incredible project for the Skating Club of Boston. This state-of-the-art facility will not only be the envy of the skating world, but also athletic complexes across New England because of its modern design and features,” said Steve Robak, executive vice president and partner, JC&A. “We’ve worked closely with The Skating Club of Boston and the entire project team for the past couple of years to ensure that this project will be completed on time and hit all the milestones for a successful opening next summer.”
