Mendelson of Berkeley Design to speak at A'19 AIA Conference on June 5

Las Vegas, NV Andrew Mendelson, FAIA, senior vice president and chief risk management officer at Berkley Design Professional, a division of Berkley Alliance Managers, a Berkley Company, will discuss Design Firm Risk Management Essentials at the A’19 AIA Conference on Architecture 2019, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The seminar is scheduled for June 5th from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

“Managing risk effectively can impact a design firm’s profitability and viability as well as their ability to achieve the safe and successful completion of construction projects,” said Mendelson. “From quality control and dispute management to cyber security issues, we will explore actionable strategies to mitigate the financial and legal risks of running a design firm.”

In its fifth consecutive year, this popular seminar, “Risk Management Essentials: Part One, the Design Firm,” highlights methods to:

  • Establish and document owner/project requirements, the design professionals’ scope of services and the deliverables of design teams and other project participants;
  • Identify the benefits of professional liability insurance and other insurance coverage to protect owners and the public;
  • Effectively prevent disputes and resolve claims, as well as legal and ethical issues related to providing pro bono services.

Mendelson is a design industry leader in the area of risk management and contracts. He has nearly four decades of experience as a licensed architect and firm principal. Since 2013, Mendelson has directed Berkley Design Professional's efforts to provide design professionals with leading-edge, risk and practice management resources, tools and training.
