O’Brien of Gilbane Building named AGC Mass. board chairman

Boston, MA Michael O’Brien, vice president and Massachusetts operations manager of Gilbane Building Company was named 2018-2020 board chairman of the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC MA) at the organization’s 82nd Annual Meeting at the Wequassett Inn. O’Brien previously served as 2016-2018 vice chairman of the board.

AGC MA is an 83-year old not-for-profit trade association, comprised of 200 CM/GC’s, subcontractors and service providers who perform the majority of the commercial, institutional, and public vertical building in the Commonwealth.

“We look forward to Mike’s new term as 2018 -2020 AGC MA board chairman. Mike comes to the position well-versed in all matters relating to AGC MA, especially with respect to his two-years as vice chair, his years of service on the board, and his experience as chair of the AGC Legislative and Chapter 149A Committees,” said Robert Petrucelli, president and CEO, Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts.

AGC MA’s mission is to promote and protect the interests of its members and advocates for excellence in the commercial construction industry. It’s the 18th largest chapter of 92 chapters of the AGC of America based in Arlington, VA. The chapter is governed by a 17-member board of directors and employs a professional staff of eight at its Wellesley headquarters.

The Association has continually demonstrated its commitment to providing services and programs helping members and their employees to develop the skills they need in building a competitive advantage in the industry.  I am dedicated to working with the board and the AGC staff in cultivating opportunities that will benefit all who engage in their membership,” said O’Brien.

As chairman of the board, O’Brien will preside over all meetings of the board of directors and will ensure that the board acts responsibly to set policies and guidelines that fulfill AGC’s mission.

Additionally, O’Brien will also provide critical leadership, guidance and oversight to ensure that board policy directives are implemented and strategic planning goals are met, such as in the areas of: Membership services, advocacy/industry relations, strategic planning, financial management and governance
