Name: Patty Healey
Position: Project Manager
Company: Barr & Barr
How many years have you been in your current field? 18
Which project, deal or transaction was the “game changer” in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? The University of Massachusetts – Chapel Renovation - The renovation of one of the most iconic buildings on UMass’ Campus and on the National Register of Historic Places. I am very proud to have this project on my resume. Barr & Barr successfully completed this complex project which had numerous challenging facets of construction including, underpinning, lowering slab on grade, cutting structural wooden trusses, and mechanical tunnel. This project was a game changer as it demonstrated the success of teamwork and forward thinking.
What are you doing differently in 2019 that has had a positive impact on your career? I am looking and planning further than just on the current project at hand. I am attending seminars and meetings that can continue to train me in my field, including code update classes or events like the Women Who Build Summit.
What was your first job and what did you learn from it? First job out of college – Joined a new dormitory project in New York. Even though I joined the project towards completion, coming fresh out of college, I was like a sponge. I started to learn time management, prioritizing, people skills, responsibilities, what real world construction is vs. what we learn in books.
Who are three women – living or dead – that you would like to have drinks with and why?
1. Katherine Hepburn – A strong willed, CT resident that was a trailblazer. I think we could have quite the conversation.
2. Eleanor Roosevelt – For the pure fact that I love her quote; ‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.’
3. My mom & sister – With a full time job and a family of my own, I truly value the time I get to spend with the women in my life that have always been there for me.
