Birthplace: Dorchester, MA - 1937

Frank Pietroski is the president of FD Pietroski & Co. in Hingham and also heads its subsidiary, Massachusetts Home Inspections Co. He organizes his own independent real estate appraisal and consulting firm in 1975 with himself and a secretary. His current staff of 13 includes eight appraisers. Born in Dorchester in July 1937, Frank attended what he now calls “a strict Irish Catholic school,” St. Matthews parochial school. After being taught a great deal about religion for five years, he said he felt obligated to enter the seminary. But after reading this was not what he actually wanted to do, he switched to Boston College High School, only to find he was being taught the same courses. Another transfer to Boston Trade School (now Technical High) still was not challenging enough for Frank, or stimulating. So he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. When he returned to civvies, he married Judy and decided that real estate would be his career. He attended Northeastern Unv. To learn about the field. Between 1962 and 1968 he was a broker in Dorchester, selling and managing small apartment buildings. This was followed by a part ownership in Duncan & Pietroski in Lower Mills and assessing property in Weymouth for the Yoh & Co. Frank’s future was set when he spent six years as an appraiser with Singer Associates in Brookline working with Bernard Singer. He bought his home in Norwell in 1969 and in 1975 opened his own company in the basement of his home. A year later he received the Member Appraisal Institute designation from the A.I.R.E.A., a division of the National Assn. of Realtors. Two years later the firm had ten employees and necessitated a name change to reflect its specialization in real estate appraising. FDPietroski was one of the first appraisal companies to install computers to ease the work it does with numerous financial institutions. They assist in feasibility, consulting and marketing studies the firm conducts. The conversion of the former Somerset Hotel in Boston to condominiums was on of its projects. The Mass. Home Inspection Co. assists brokers and buyers inspecting properties – residential, industrial and commercial. Basically, they point out problems, explaining the best way to correct them and help clients understand the difference between market value and actual value of properties. Although the firm does a small amount of court work, it is qualified in all counties and has testified on compensation, rent studies, assessments and market rentals. FD Pietroski covers all of eastern Mass., including Cape Code and the Islands, the north shore and has plans to expand into Southern N.H. Frank recently launched a promotion campaign aimed at his goal of becoming known for his expertise and becoming recognized for the firm’s reputation to solve problems. 80% of his clients are referrals, the remainder are commercial and industrial accounts which return with repeat business. “Proper exposure is an asset to us and aggressive marketing is a must,” Frank says. Judy is on of the firm’s appraisers. They have four children and all enjoy skiing and sailing. FDPietroski appraises some 2,000 properties per year and in the last three has assisted in project approval of over a hundred condo projects. Frank also holds the SRPA designation form the S.R.E.A. and heads the Eastern Mass. Chapter’s market data center which he originated. He also is a Graduate Realtors Institute and has lectured and taught courses for that annual MAR program.
