In 1958, Max turned to real estate and opened the Max Javit office, working in the areas of investment real estate and existing commercial properties and shopping center site locations. “Since I successfully put together a 60,000 square foot center in Vernon, Conn.” (This center is still expanding.) At present, Max is finishing a 70,000 square foot shopping center in New York and is a partner in prospect Plaza, featuring such stores as King’s Department Store, Conn. Bank and Trust, and 13 others, in Hartford. He is also working on 23 unit apartment house in Hartford and several other commercial properties in New York state. Max started with only a few hundred dollars and maintains that “young fellows should be encouraged.” With his wife, Rachael, and four children, Max enjoys swimming and tennis, as well as reading. Max prefers to hold on to his developments rather than selling them. Of the industry, he maintains that “Development is open for young people anywhere if they have the drive and perseverance.
