Education: Partenways High School One of five successful businessman brothers, Rene joined the Continental Baking Company right out of high school as a bakers’s helper. For several years he attended bakery schools and ran various bakeries in Southern Massachusetts. In 1938, the newly married baker moved to Hyannis and opened the Cape Cod Bakery. Twenty years later Poyant entered the real estate business. “In my business I met everyone and was often consulted on real estate opportunities. For 20 years I sent these inquires to other broker friends and watched them make commissions. It is amazing today how many real estate clients I have to whom I once sold bread.” Poyant became quite interested in financing, which has helped considerably in his business of developing shopping centers and selling several million dollars worth of motel property. Much of the newness and refurbishing of downtown Hyannis is a result of his office. “We advertise all over the country and have buyers all the way from California.” Rene was once honored by Gov. Dever as the Outstanding Citizen on the Cape. In his spare time, Rene plays the drums, is wife plays the piano and his son the guitar. A formers member of the Billy Morrisey Band, Rene comments, “I have been working since I was 16 and don’t know what it is like to work less than 16-18 hours a day.”
