Savoy, MA The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Weston & Sampson as a winner of a 2018 Silver Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the Black Brook Rd. reconstruction and slope stabilization project.

The 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards were presented at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth Larkin, PE, MBTA assistant general manager for capital delivery and Housamm Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort director of capital programs & environmental affairs.

Weston & Sampson, headquartered in Peabody, was retained by the town to evaluate Black Brook Rd., 1.3 miles of which was destroyed by storm flows in Black Brook from Tropical Storm Irene. Black Brook Rd. is an important connector in town. Weston & Sampson evaluated the storm-ravaged roadway, secured all funding, prepared final designs and provided construction administration to achieve roadway reconstruction and slope stabilization without using taxpayer money. The collaboration between the town’s personnel, consultants/contractors, state legislators, gubernatorial administrations and five funding sources for the project is a testament to persistence, innovation and resilience. The reconstructed roadway benefits residents, the town, surrounding communities and emergency response services within Savoy.

“The awards honor this year’s most outstanding engineering accomplishments in Massachusetts,” said ACEC/MA president Michael Scipione, PE president and CEO of Weston & Sampson. “They are excellent examples of how engineers create projects that improve or lives and communities. Professional engineers are dedicated to providing quality infrastructure, providing safe and reliable water and energy, and making our buildings safe and energy efficient. We congratulate our winners on their exceptional achievements.”
