AlliedCook Construction, one of northern New England's premier construction management firms, recently began construction on a new memory care center - Avita of Stroudwater. Scarborough-based Gawron Turgeon Architects designed the new facility.
AlliedCook is serving as construction manager on this new memory care facility. The 45,000 s/f facility will be fully dedicated for patients with Alzheimers and other forms of memory loss and will address a growing problem among the elderly, both in Maine and nationally. The one-story, wood-framed building will include 60 resident rooms, resident common areas including dining rooms, sun porches, activity rooms, and memory care gardens. The building will include public and administrative areas made up of a multi-purpose room, parlor, café, private dining room, commercial kitchen, laundry facilities and administrative offices.
AlliedCook has been providing construction management services to Sandy River Company for more than 25 years and has completed several projects including Springbrook Center in Westbrook, Pine Point Center in Scarborough, Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, and Marshwood Center in Lewiston. "We deeply value our relationship with Sandy River Company and are proud to be part of their new state-of-the-art facility," said Matt Cook, president.
Avita of Stroudwater is a venture of Sandy River Company and Northbridge Companies.
Gawron Turgeon Architects, experts in the design of healing environments, is the architect and interior designer of this new memory care facility. "Because the name Avita means 'For Life' and is the inspiration for Sandy River Company and Northbridge Companies to create a safe and fulfilling environment for residents, our team of thoughtful designers' goal was to create a home-like, sustainable environment to support this," said Mary Turgeon, Gawron Turgeon Architects' principal.
The new memory care center is scheduled to open fall 2013.
