January 08, 2021 - Northern New England

Manchester, NH Eckman Construction has received the Design-Build Excellence Award for their recent work at the Derryfield School. The project added a new 42,000 s/f Athletic & Wellness Center to the campus and converted a 10,000 s/f former gymnasium into a Science and Innovation Center.

“This was a true design-build team effort,” said Preston Hunter, vice president at Eckman Construction. “These modern facilities create new opportunities for wellness and STEM learning for Derryfield students. It was a real joy to be part of this project from concept to completion.”

The new athletic facility features three regulation-sized basketball courts, a movement studio, cardio room, weight training area, locker rooms, team and training room spaces. The Science and Innovation Center space features an X-Learning classroom, three bio/chem labs, two physics labs, a robotics lab, maker space, and an “Inspiration Lounge” on a new mezzanine level.

Eckman led the design-build team which included Cowan Goudreau Architects, TFMoran, and Fitzemeyer & Tocci Associates.

The 2020 Excellence in Construction Awards were presented by the NH/VT Chapter of Associated Contractors and Builders.
