April 09, 2015 - Rhode Island
Mayor Jorge Elorza joined members of the Boston Celtics to unveil a new media arts room in Roger Williams Middle School, a project made possible by a partnership between the Celtics' Shamrock Foundation, Alex And Ani | Charity by Design and the Providence Public Schools.
"The new media arts room at Roger Williams Middle School is a world-class facility that will help foster creative expression and prepare our students for the jobs of the future," said mayor Elorza. "I thank the Boston Celtics' Shamrock Foundation and Alex and Ani for their generous investment in our public schools. Creativity is ingrained in the fabric of our community and investments like this will ensure that Providence remains a leader in the arts for years to come."
The kick-off began with several guided projects in the new media art room, including an introduction to studio photography and an opportunity for students to design their own Alex and Ani charm.
The media arts room features cutting-edge design and multimedia tools including six new iMac computers, digital cameras, a green-screen backdrop, studio lighting, a pottery wheel, art tables, and an 80-inch television monitor equipped with AppleTV.
