Gilbane Building Company broke ground recently on a $52 million expansion project at Huggins Hospital, a critical access community hospital.Gilbane is providing construction management services for the project.
As the major provider of primary health care services in the region, Huggins' new hospital will bring better access and expanded care to the communities of the eastern Lakes Region. The new hospital will be a 101,000 s/f efficient and modern facility incorporating the latest in health care innovation and technological advancements. The new hospital will include an expanded emergency department, a new women's health and obstetrics unit, a women's imaging suite with private waiting and diagnostic imaging rooms, larger, private outpatient treatment rooms, a centrally located cardiopulmonary department with internal stress testing capabilities and many other improvements. The construction of the new hospital is anticipated to complete in November 2010.

Designed by DiGiorgio Associates the architecture of the new hospital will use natural materials, healing garden areas, large windows, skylights and a central atrium.
