J.K. Scanlan Co. to construct wind turbines

March 11, 2009 - Spotlights
J.K. Scanlan Company, Inc. has introduced JKS Wind, its newest division. J.K. Scanlan Company has recognized the trend toward green building and sees wind power as a viable source of sustainable energy. JKS Wind will participate in the design and construction of wind turbines as the shift toward green building grows and sustainable power is the way of the future. As a first endeavor into green energy JKS Wind has been awarded a $2 million contract to design and construct a 600 kW wind turbine at the Cape Cod Community College.
The project kicked off in February and will be completed by the fall of 2009. The wind turbine will be an Elecon/Turbowinds T-600-48DS wind turbine with a 48 meter rotor on a 50 meter tower.
Other key members of the project team include multifaceted industrial electrical design and construction contractor Glynn Electric, professional design and civil engineer firm Atlantic Design Engineers, LLC, and Aeronautica Windpower, a manufacturer of mid-scale wind turbines.
The Cape Cod Community College will operate and maintain the turbine thus allowing them to pay a discounted rate on electricity.
