Kaplan Construction completes new additions for Miltons The Store for Men

Kaplan Construction, a general contractor and construction management firm providing comprehensive building programs to commercial, healthcare, multi-family, worship, institutional, and historic rehabilitation/adaptive reuse clients across Greater Boston, completed work on two new additions to Miltons The Store for Men. Kaplan performed and completed the work without interruption to Miltons' operations and in time for the busy holiday shopping season. It is the second time in 15 years that Kaplan and Miltons have collaborated on a major construction project at this location. The enhancements to the retail shop can be seen from the east end of Chestnut Hill Square, a new lifestyle and retail destination located on Rte. 9 eastbound. The additions include a two-story, steel frame and glass façade entrance, added display windows, and new tile and EIFS finishes. A second, two-story addition was constructed to house new fitting rooms and a customer lounge area, as well as stock and display space. Also included in the project were select back-of-house renovations. Changes were made to the layout of an existing storage room, benefitting employees and providing additional space for the sales floor. Kaplan took the previously long and narrow storage area and created a square-shaped stock room, making it faster for employees to access supplies. A tailor shop was also added to the back of the new space. Architectural design for the project was provided by Arrowstreet Inc. Kaplan was responsible for the design/build engineering of the mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
