Professionally, where were you ten years ago and where are you now?
Ten years ago I was beginning my career as an engineering consultant at GEI. I have gained a lot of experience in engineering and construction since then, and have been able to work on a variety of challenging projects. Thanks to some wonderful leaders and mentors at GEI, I have been able to develop my technical engineering knowledge base and my skills as a responsive consultant serving our client's needs.
What advise would you give to a woman just starting a career in your field?
A woman starting in engineering consulting should take the time to expand both her technical knowledge and her career network, through both professional and client-based organizations. When I started my career, I spent much of my time working with a technical focus and attending engineering related events. Today, more of my time is focused on business development and client-based networking to sustain the technical work that much of our staff does. Joining professional and client organizations can help you make connections, promote your firm, and keep a finger on the pulse of market and latest technologies in your field.
