Roche Bros. store at the Burnham Building - Boston, MA

McDonald Electrical Corp. (MEC), of Hingham, Mass., teaming with Suffolk Construction, has completed the comprehensive electrical fit-out of the Roche Bros. store at the Burnham Building, the site of the former flagship Filene's store at 10 Summer St. in Downtown Crossing. The NECA contractor started construction on the 25,000 s/f, two-level store in September 2014 and the fast-track project was completed as scheduled in April.
The full-service supermarket is located on the basement level, occupying the former iconic Filene's Basement space. At street level, Roche Bros.' 3,000 s/f space features freshly prepared, ready-to-eat food, complete with a cookie oven and coffee bar.
McDonald Electrical supervised a field crew ranging upwards of 14 electricians and technicians based out of IBEW Local 103 at peak construction. McDonald's tel/data division, MEC Systems, provided tel/data and security wiring for the project.
Roche Bros. first downtown Boston store opened on April 29. The supermarket is the 21st store for the Wellesley-based Roche Bros. chain.
In 2014, McDonald Electrical completed the electrical renovation of the historic 400,000 s/f Burnham Building, a project that included installations of the building's entirely new power distribution, electrical, fire alarm, lighting, and lighting systems. MEC also recently completed the tenant fit-out of AOL offices at 10 Summer St.
