Mount Washington Resort received a check in the amount of $15,931 in energy efficiency rebates from Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH). PSNH provides incentives for energy efficient improvements including lighting installations, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs) that maximize efficient energy use, and high efficiency heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Mount Washington Resort's new Spa and Conference Center, which recently opened in January of this year, received rebates for installing energy efficient equipment, including 70 high efficiency lighting fixtures, 28 occupancy sensors, nine New Equipment Manufacturer Association (NEMA) premium motors, six VFDs for use on fans and pumps and a high efficiency chiller, which is a 132-ton air-cooled unit. The energy savings from installing this equipment is projected to be about 235,505 kilo Watt hours (kWh) per year, which translates into a projected energy savings of over 3,500,000 kWh over the life of the equipment. This adds up to a dollar savings of over $410,500.
These measures also are expected to significantly reduce power plant emissions, reducing carbon dioxide (CO2), or "greenhouse gas," emissions by 260,704 pounds per year.
These rebates are being offered under the PSNH nhsaves@work Large Business New Equipment and Construction Program. This program offers cash incentives to encourage commercial and industrial customers to invest in energy efficient equipment. These improvements enable both PSNH and its customers to reduce their energy costs by better managing energy consumption. There are many programs available to suit the wide variety of PSNH's customer base, and information can be found on www.psnh.com.

Mount Washington Resort's long-term commitment to environmental sustainability was a key consideration in the design of the new Presidential Wing of The Mount Washington Hotel.
According to Pat Corso, president and CEO of Mount Washington Resort, "The new Presidential Wing, including the Spa and Conference Center, represents the first major construction at The Mount Washington Hotel in over 100 years. Incorporating the latest sustainable building technology possible is part of our long-term plan, and is consistent with The Hotel's authenticity and history of innovation."
In fact, Mount Washington Resort has launched its own Resort-wide "Sustainability Program" which is not only charged with mapping out guidelines for future development, but also shepherding the various departments across the Resort toward the most sustainable practices on a day-to-day basis. Mount Washington Resort has been taking working with PSNH toward energy efficiency since 2000. Bretton Woods, NH's largest ski area, has earned rebates both for retrofitting the facility for high efficiency lighting as well as installing high efficiency snow guns for its snowmaking operations.
PSNH is New Hampshire's largest electric utility, generating and distributing clean electricity for more than 490,000 homes and businesses in an environmentally friendly manner. Each year, PSNH supports dozens of forest protection, energy conservation, and environmental organizations through both financial contributions and generous employee volunteerism. PSNH is proud of its commitment to the environment and willingness to create innovative solutions to environmental issues.
In December 2008, the Resort launched the new year-round, world-class, eco-conscious Bretton Woods Canopy Tour; and the new Presidential Wing; part of the Resort's $50 million refurbishment was unveiled in January 2009. The Presidential Wing houses a 25,000 s/f Spa, 20,000 s/f Conference Center, the stunning Jewell Terrace rooftop garden and outdoor pool complex. As part of a proposed master-planned community, spanning the next decade, plans for the development of approximately 1,000 new homes and homesites have begun with the first offerings now available
