According to Glen White, CEO at Mutual Bank, they have acquired the Saftler property located at 342 Bedford St. (Rte. 18).
White said that the bank's management team and board of directors will study the best possible use of the property, which could possibly include a Mutual Bank presence on the site. "Rte. 18 is a high traffic area with considerable commercial activity which makes it a choice business location," White said.
White did not offer a timetable for a final decision regarding the property but said, "As a bank that has been headquartered in Whitman for more than 120 years, we are committed to this town. Regardless of what final plans we develop for the Bedford St. property, our main office at 570 Washington St. will continue to be available to serve our many customers who visit this location."
Mutual Bank is a $366 million community bank serving consumer and business customers through nine branch offices in southeastern Massachusetts.
