NAI/ The Dunham Group has leased a new 10,906 s/f medical office building to Mid Coast Hospital at the Highlands campus. This build-to-suit facility will house Mid Coast Medical Group's Topsham Adult Care office and will serve as an anchor to what will become a multi-tenanted commercial development built in phases. The Highland's Retirement Community is the region's premier location for independent and assisted living.
"This project is the culmination of a wonderful effort between two Mid Coast staples in the hospital and the Highlands," said Justin Lamontagne, who brokered the deal. "The negotiation went extremely smoothly as we had a real team approach from the very start." Local architects Gawron Turgeon Architects were hired by the developer to design the core and shell which also included the exterior of the building and SMRT was contracted by Mid Coast to design the interior. Landry-French construction will act as the general contractor for the site and building and the facility is scheduled to be open by January 2014.
Steven Trockman, director of community relations and outreach for Mid Coast calls the new clinic a cutting-edge model following in the hospital's "Patient-Center Medical Home" philosophy. It's transforming primary health care by giving patients the education and support needed for them to actively participate in their own care. "It's a place where care is delivered at the right place, at the right time, in a way that best suits a patient's needs." Highlands owner/developer John Wasileski noted how that philosophy dovetails with that of the Topsham retirement community, where it's customer driven and all about choice. "We at The Highlands, residents, staff, families, are extremely excited about this. It actually fulfills a dream of over 20 years to have a full service, primary care facility on our campus."
"This new location represents a wonderful opportunity for Mid Coast to provide care for the entire Topsham community, while at the same time providing excellent access and convenience for residents of The Highlands and its sister community, Highland Green," said Mid Coast's Trockman. Wasileski sees it as a win-win-win situation for Mid Coast, The Highlands and the greater community. "They already have a practice in town, just at another location," he says. "This new facility, like the current one, will be open to the public. So it means the doctors already in Topsham, are staying in Topsham, which is good for the town."
