Onyx Partners celebrates ribbon cutting of Springfield Crossing Shopping Center

Springfield, MA Onyx Partners announced the successful transformation of the former Eastfield Mall property into Springfield Crossing, a new regional shopping center that officially celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 17th.

Onyx Partners acquired the former Eastfield Mall in 2023 and has since worked closely with the city of Springfield, Western Massachusetts economic development partners, neighborhood councils, and the state of Massachusetts to advance a redevelopment vision that supports economic growth and reflects community priorities.

Springfield Crossing is anchored by Target and BJ’s Wholesale Club and features a strong lineup of national and regional tenants, including Hobby Lobby, PetSmart, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, La-Z-Boy Furniture, Skechers, Carter’s, and Chase Bank. The shopping center brings new retail, dining, and services to the region while creating jobs and revitalizing a long-vacant property. Limited small shop retail space remains available.

“My administration is proud of our work with the developers, Onyx, to make this project—an $80 million investment—a reality,” said mayor Domenic Sarno. “The Springfield Crossing project created 800 jobs including construction, and we have a couple hundred Springfield residents currently employed here. I deeply appreciate Anton Melchionda and the Onyx team for being great partners.”

The ribbon-cutting event marked an important milestone for the project and underscored the collaborative efforts between public and private partners to reinvest in one of city’s most prominent commercial corridors.
