Planet Fitness leases 73,787 s/f and opens 4 new N.H. gym sites

Planet Fitness, the New Hampshire-based health club operator closed out the fourth quarter of 2009 by signing four new leases for corporate-owned clubs. In Nashua, Planet Fitness signed a lease for 25,000 s/f of retail space at the Market Basket Plaza at 34 North West Blvd. and an additional 22,412 s/f at 150 Coliseum Ave. Planet Fitness also signed a lease for 16,927 s/f in Stratham in the Staples Plaza on Rte. 108, just off Rte. 101, and 9,448 s/f in Lee at the Market Basket Plaza at the Lee Traffic Circle. "We've been eyeing Nashua for over five years waiting for the right opportunity to present itself," said Brian Kunkel, director of real estate for Planet Fitness. "Our two new clubs in Nashua are strategically placed to provide convenience to potential customers living in any part of Nashua. The same can be said of our gyms in Stratham and Lee, both of which opened this month and are off to a very fast start." With the new clubs, Planet Fitness, which was founded in 1992 in Dover, will have 15 locations in New Hampshire and more than 300 locations in 35 states. For two straight years, Planet Fitness has been ranked among the fastest-growing private businesses in the America by Inc. magazine.
