J.M. Coull has been named an Excellence in Construction Award recipient by the Mass. Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
J.M. Coull won "Eagle" and "Green" awards in the annual statewide competition's "Pre-Engineered Building $2-$10 million" category for its construction of a new FW Webb facility in Waterford, Conn. Eagle is the highest-level Excellence in Construction Award and the Green award is given for outstanding projects that are sustainable and energy-efficient. J.M. Coull is one of only 16 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's Excellence in Construction Awards.
"The work of J.M. Coull represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Mass. ABC president Greg Beeman. "The company should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry."
The expansion of F.W. Webb Company's plumbing supply business into Waterford called for a new 67,000 s/f facility to house a warehouse, showroom, offices and a self-serve wholesale store.
Competition judges said the incorporation of a hybrid solar-geothermal system for heating and cooling, a solar domestic hot water system and a photovoltaic-powered monument/entrance sign were among the project's highlights.
Project owner FW Webb Company and architect Design-Science were recognized along with J.M. Coull as part of the project team.
The award winners were determined by an independent panel of expert judges based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, safety and other considerations. The judges were: Daniel Carson, Daniel Carson Consulting Engineering, Charles Sacre, Kleinfelder/SEA Consultants, Paul Tyrell, STV Inc., Jim Flanagan, FlanaConsulting.
