Trumbull-Nelson completed work on the new Center for Legal Services building located at 190 Chelsea St. The project included complete renovation of the former Freck's Department Store, a 117-year old downtown landmark located at the intersection of the two main streets.
The $3.5 million renovation, which integrated historical accuracy with 'green' building standards, includes 14,700 s/f of space and will house the school's environmental and natural resources law clinic, its land use clinic, and the South Royalton Legal Clinic.
The project restored an underused and deteriorating building, helping to create a modern and functioning facility and integrating campus and community. The work included selective demolition and re-build, handicapped-access, and a wide variety of sustainable design features.
TruexCullins Architecture + Interior Design was the architect.
The building is located on the National Register of Historic Places.
