Spotlights
Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) selected DiGiorgio Associates Inc. (DAI) to provide architectural and engineering services for a satellite ambulatory surgery center.
One of the main goals for this project is to alleviate the scheduling stresses for the surgical services at the main hospital campus in Hartford.
This project consists of 30,000 s/f of fit-out for four operating rooms and support space, including a central sterile department. This ambulatory surgery center (ASC) will be located on the third floor of a medical office building with strip windows which allow for extensive day lighting.
The design of the ASC provides continuous patient circulation for a progressive flow. The central waiting area integrates children's activities and is surrounded with daylight. A separate work counter allows parents with laptops to have access to a comfortable work area while observing their children. The nurse stations are positioned for ease of access and visibility to patients and each other. Support spaces are located to allow for efficiency of staff movement.
Central sterile services will be located on the basement level. The surgery center will utilize a case cart system with the processing, packaging and loading of the carts to occur on this basement level. Mechanical and electrical rooms along with additional storage space are also located on this floor.
This ambulatory surgery center is due to open in September of 2013.
