CT ABC has been notified by CT DEEP that the agency is trying to come up with a simplified procedure to promote the most cost-effective reuse of materials generated during the remediation and redevelopment of infrastructure projects. To do this, DEEP is looking to revise key regulatory definitions to move away from just "natural" and "contaminated" and establish additional reuse options for reusable soil, sediments, and construction materials.
Some of you may remember DEEP addressing this issue several years ago, and in the end the agency created a special permit for beneficial reuse of soils and sediments. Now, DEEP is trying to improve and streamline the regulatory approval process for using soil and dredged sediments as a cost-effective material in infrastructure projects throughout Conn. Our industry's input will be part of DEEP's efforts.
