On March 21st, Child and Family, a private non-profit organization offering social service programs to the community in Newport County, broke ground on their new headquarters facility on John Clarke Rd. The 38,736 s/f, $7.5 million facility will consolidate Child and Family's multiple facilities into a single location.
Designed by Vision 3 Architects of Providence, the building will accommodate a state of the art child care for 100 children, community meeting spaces, counseling offices, and administrative offices on two floors.
The builder is EW Burman General Contractors of Warwick.
The Child and Family facility will become the first building constructed in Rhode Island to utilize National Grid's "Advanced Building Systems" program, and will be classified as a High Performance Building by exceeding all required energy code standards.
The facility was designed to reduce energy consumption by 30% and will become eligible for National Grid's energy use rebates under "Advanced Building Systems". Under the program, National Grid offers significant monetary rebates for the incremental construction costs associated with the implementation of energy savings systems designed into the building.
The building design integrates many sustainable and energy efficient features to optimize; health and indoor quality, thermal, visual and acoustic comfort, security, safety and energy efficiency
