Revere, MA Nauset Construction recently completed the second phase of renovations to the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center. The combined projects enable Lighthouse to maintain its standing as one of the Commonwealth’s top ranked nursing care facilities, providing short-term rehabilitative care, rehabilitation for joint replacement patients, hospice and respite care, as well as skilled long-term care. Lighthouse Nursing Care Center is managed by Genesis HealthCare, one of the largest providers of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services in the nation.
Designed by Donahue Architects, Phase II of the project consisted of the installation of new replacement rooftop mechanical units, new fire protection systems, lighting and finishes throughout the entire third floor. New HardiePanel siding was also applied to the existing building’s facade to match the exterior envelope of the new addition constructed in Phase I. Site work included parking lot and sidewalk reconstruction including handicap accessibility enhancements.
The first phase (designed by The Architectural Team) included the ground up construction of a new, three-story 17,000 s/f addition and the renovation of an additional 10,000 s/f of existing space, providing the facility with 12 single unit short-term rehabilitation beds, suites for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, medical office and clinical space and a 2,700 s/f, rehabilitation gymnasium. A three-season, three-story wraparound porch providing residents with panoramic views of the surrounding neighborhood was also part of the addition.
“These critical upgrades were designed to expand our services to better serve the residents of Revere and surrounding communities,” said Gregory Grove, president and CEO of the nonprofit Guardian Foundation, Inc., an affiliate of Lighthouse of Revere, Inc. which owns the facility. “We are now able to provide our residents and patients with a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, as well as enhanced amenities and accommodations.”
Working in an occupied health care facility has its unique challenges, requiring a heightened level of awareness of the impact that construction has on patients, staff and visitors. “At Nauset, we bring a wealth of experience working in occupied healthcare settings. We understand the safety and patient awareness requirements, and implement the necessary processes and procedures to minimize disruptions,” said Anthony Papantonis, president of Nauset.
