Boston, MA According to CBRE/New England, on behalf of Pappas Properties, 908 Devices Inc. is expanding their operations with a move to Pappas Commerce Center located in the Seaport District. 908 Devices Inc., a manufacturer of purpose-built analytical tools for safety and security, life science, and other applied markets, will relocate their full-scale production facility from 18,000 s/f within Boston’s Innovation & Design Building to 37,500 s/f at 645 Summer St. in Q3 2018.
CBRE/NE’s Adam Brinch and Meredith Christensen represented Pappas Properties as the exclusive leasing agents for the property. Colliers International’s Evan Gallagher and Dan Collins represented 908 Devices.
645 Summer St. is part of a multi-building complex known as Pappas Commerce Center located in the Seaport District. The flex building is designed to meet the expectations of the city’s new economy. With a significant influx of high-profile companies looking for next-generation flex space, 645 Summer St. can accommodate both office and light lab tenants.
Quickly outgrowing their 27 Drydock flex space, 908 Devices saw value in the progressive vision that Pappas Properties had for 645 Summer St. and bought in quickly.
645 Summer St. is one of the city’s newest waterfront flex properties and positions a classic mid-century building to satisfy modern needs. The fully renovated 150,000 s/f office/flex/lab complex offers space unlike any other in the greater metro area. The two-story building benefits from 75,000 s/f floor plates, 15’ ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass with views of the skyline and harbor. 645 Summer provides large column spacing, all new infrastructure and a new contemporary design. The property offers multiple on-site amenities including an enclosed rooftop meeting area, paddle tennis courts, shuffle board courts, first-floor cafe, showers and locker rooms. 645 Summer is near the MBTA Silver Line and bus routes. Saam Architecture is responsible for the design of 908 Devices’ fit-out as well as the revitalization of the core and shell at 645 Summer.
“Boston’s ‘new economy’ requires a different type of building as innovative companies look for hybrid lab/office space,” said Pappas Properties’ Andrew Pappas. “We have created a building unlike any other in Boston.”
“As a rapidly growing company it was important for us to find a scalable location near the Innovation District, an area that is attracting Boston’s most creative firms and innovative tech companies,” said Dr. Kevin J. Knopp, Co-founder and CEO of 908 Devices Inc. “Pappas Commerce Center accommodates the lab, office and manufacturing space required for us to expand our design and manufacturing operations while offering amenities that will surely help us to attract new talent to the team.”
“The Saam Architecture team is proud to collaborate with this project team and to contribute to the next generation of office buildings in Boston’s Innovation District,” said Diana Nicklaus, president and CEO of Saam Architecture. “The transformation of 645 Summer Street provides Boston’s innovation community with an alternative waterfront location in an emerging business district of Boston.”
