West Haven, CT Skanska has been awarded a $25 million contract to construct a 50,000 s/f outpatient clinic for the Veterans Affairs (VA). The new facility will replace the existing, outdated VA care center with a modernized building for patient care.
“The VA does incredible work caring for our veterans and we are proud to support them by constructing a new facility in which they can receive the care they need,” said Bryan Northrop, executive vice president and general manager for Skanska’s building operations throughout New England. “We are bringing our many years of health care construction experience to deliver an updated center that will greatly benefit our honored veterans and those who provide their care.”
When completed in fall 2019, the new facility will meet Green Globes sustainability certification standards and will include: Numerous examination rooms for doctor’s appointments and assessments; classrooms where life skills courses will be offered to help facilitate a smooth rehabilitation process; an outdoor courtyard; an athletic gym; a cafeteria; and 360 surface-level parking spaces.
“Orange VA LLC, the ownership entity developing the new VA outpatient clinic in Orange, will deliver a state of the art health care facility for the West Haven Veterans Community. We are honored and excited to be able to work with Skanska and S/L/A/M Collaborative to build and deliver this first class facility for the veterans,” said Josh Hausman with Orange VA LLC.
Designed by S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM), the center will feature a modern exterior composed of metal paneling and be surrounded by ample green space. The design is tailored to foster a positive patient experience and provide a campus-like setting for veterans to receive care and interact with one another.
“SLAM is honored to partner with the VA of West Haven, Skanska, and Orange VA in developing a patient-centered facility providing both a valuable and sensitive environment for the men and women who served and defended us, as they heal and return to active public life,” said Daniel Fenyn, AIA, of SLAM. “We feel that it has been a privilege to work on this project and know that our veterans will be well-cared for in this new building.”
