What led you to your current profession? I have always had an interest in the construction industry. Today, I thrive on being able to overcome obstacles and solve problems as they arise. Being able to sink my teeth into a challenging project and see it through to completion gives me a lot of satisfaction.
What advice can you offer to someone who is interested in a career in your industry? The construction industry is struggling to attract the younger generation into the industry and there are a lot of programs to recruit and train workers. It’s a great time to launch a career in construction. I went to Wentworth Institute of Technology where I received a degree in Building Construction Technology. I have worked my way through the ranks in the field from field engineer to superintendent to the management side as a project manager. Anyone interested in a career in construction should have a good understanding of how things are put together plus strong communication skills.
Which project, deal, or transaction was the “game-changer” in the advancement of your career? The Great Marsh Brewing Company is a new two-story 15,000 s/f building in Essex, Mass. featuring a craft brewhouse, taproom, restaurant, and beer garden. Following the demolition of an existing structure, I managed the complex construction process that included a friction pile foundation system, structural steel frame, and the installation of a 30hl brewery – all adjacent to a salt marsh. A unique difference with this project for me is the ability to enjoy all the hard work with some friends and family while enjoying a craft beer and hearing what people have to say about the space.
