Greater Hartford BOMA President's Message
November 19, 2008 - Connecticut
Thirty years ago, Greater Hartford BOMA was established as a federated chapter of BOMA International. On December 10th, we will celebrate this milestone at the Annual Holiday Social at The Society Room of Hartford. The past presidents will be in attendance, and the members will acknowledge and honor their contribution to the growth and endurance of this great commercial real estate group. Over the past thirty years, the Association has seen many changes, both with the real estate industry and the Hartford area. As the real estate industry faces another economic downturn, similar to what happened in 1974 and 1980, I know we will survive this time, just as we did those other downturns. The survival of any Association depends on the commitment the members have to their organization. The members of Greater Hartford BOMA have continually shown their support by their renewing their membership year after year, sponsoring events throughout the year, and their attendance at the many functions held all year long. As my term as president comes to an end, I've realized just how important this commitment has been to me and the board of directors. Without the help of so many members throughout the year, the Association could not have accomplished all that it has. Come join your colleagues at the Holiday Social and Anniversary party on December 10th and congratulate both the past presidents and yourselves on thirty great years.
I would like to take this time to remind all of the 2008 BOMA members to renew their dues for 2009. Dues invoices have been mailed and many members have already renewed. Thank you to those members! The benefits of belonging to Greater Hartford BOMA and BOMA International are tremendous. Programming in 2008 was informative and educational. The networking events - golf outing, holiday social, TOBY dinner and the Mid Atlantic Conference - were all great ways for the members to visit with their colleagues in a casual atmosphere. Membership has been increasing over the past few months, and I expect more people in the commercial real estate industry to join this great association in 2009.
All great organizations need strong, working committees. The committees are the backbone of the group. I encourage all members to join a committee or two that they feel they can contribute to with their knowledge and enthusiasm. I assure you, the time you put into the committee will come back to you two-fold. Contact the executive office at 860-243-9691 and speak with Sharon Moran about the committees.
I look forward to seeing all of the members on December 10th at The Society Room of Hartford as we begin the holiday season.
