2025 Ones to Watch - Industry Leaders: Gabriela Shelburne, Studio G Architects
Principal
Studio G Architects
“Principal Gabriela Shelburne leads Studio G Architects’ Housing Studio, guiding teams through mission-driven, community-centered projects rooted in sustainability, equity, and care. Her ability to deeply listen and translate stakeholder goals into impactful, enduring designs makes her a trusted partner and a powerful leader in shaping Boston’s communities.”
What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? One project that I am most proud of is leading the collaborative design process of E+ Highland, which brought residents and the design team together to shape a sustainable, community-centered vision for affordable housing in Highland Park. Guiding that process strengthened trust, elevated neighborhood priorities, and advanced an equitable model for development. This will be Studio G’s first energy-positive project to date, representing the firm’s ongoing commitment to socially impactful, sustainable design.
How do you inspire, motivate, or mentor others within your organization? I motivate my team by creating an environment where every voice is valued and curiosity directly influences the design process. I mentor emerging designers by giving them ownership of meaningful tasks, encouraging them to engage early and often with the communities we serve, and helping them navigate the balance between mission-driven goals, technical demands, and project delivery. By modeling collaboration, transparency, and problem-solving, I support their growth, build confidence, and foster a sense of purpose across the Studio G team.
Who has had the greatest impact on your career or leadership journey? Gail Sullivan, our founder and managing principal at Studio G, a true mentor and friend.
