The Bulfinch Companies and Newmark secure 14,000 s/f lease for MUJI expansion

Boston, MA According to an affiliate of The Bulfinch Companies, Inc. (Bulfinch), a commercial real estate, management and investment firm, MUJI, the globally-renowned Japanese lifestyle brand, has signed a lease at 48 Brattle St. in Harvard Square.
MUJI is now open in time for the holiday shopping season. It spans 14,000 s/f across multiple floors, marking an expansion for the brand in the Greater Boston area. MUJI will offer an array of homeware, apparel, accessories and more, and will introduce unique services and local experiences that elevate the customer’s visit.
MUJI’s Harvard Square location embraces the brand’s “frameless” design concept, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that blur the line between the store and the street. This architectural approach echoes architect Ben Thompson’s 1969 vision of integrating merchandise, space, and urban life. The transparent façade highlights MUJI’s simple, thoughtful design ethos, offering passersby clear views of the inviting interior and each level of the store.
Bulfinch represented building ownership in the lease transaction working with Nemark’s retail brokerage team led by Matt Curtin, executive managing director, Greg Covey, senior managing director and Alden Bush, director.
