2025 Year in Review: Michael Schumacher, Shawmut Design and Construction
Senior Director/Commercial Sector Lead
Shawmut Design and Construction
What accomplishment or milestone stood out for you or your firm in 2025? We advanced innovative, impactful projects – from commercial and education to life science and historic preservation. Our team made progress on FM’s new Norwood campus, anchored by a 325,000 s/f R&D facility. We continued Harvard University’s sustainability-focused redevelopment at 175 N. Harvard St., including the mass timber American Repertory Theater and 100 South Campus Dr., a 14-story housing complex. And we completed the renovation of the Omni Parker House, Boston’s oldest hotel. These projects reflect the high-value, community-centered work we’re delivering across the region.
As you look ahead to 2026, which emerging trends or shifts will shape opportunities for you, your firm, or your market sector? Looking ahead to 2026, I see the New England market gradually regaining momentum as owners thoughtfully evaluate projects that prioritize performance, efficiency, and mission-critical spaces. Sustainability – especially geothermal, electrification, and high-efficiency systems – will continue to be a priority. While conditions remain selective, these trends point to a steady pace of activity and sustained investment in projects that deliver long-term value.
