2026 Women in Construction: Nadine Robinson, Interstate Electrical Services Corp.
BIM Coordinator
Interstate Electrical Services Corp.
What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community? I thrive on high-complexity projects, especially those involving multi-tier electrical systems for large-scale commercial facilities. I recently coordinated an electrical room that required seven to eight tiers of conduit. While some might find that level of density daunting, I find it rewarding. My goal is to ensure every run is perfectly placed in the digital model before it hits the field. It matters because this level of precision prevents costly delays for our clients. I love the mental challenge of solving these puzzles. The more complicated the design, the more I enjoy the process.
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? I wish more women knew that the construction industry is now a center of technology and innovation. There’s the dated misconception that this field is only about physical labor, but roles in BIM and Virtual Design & Construction require high-level analytical thinking and technical precision. The opportunities for professional growth are limitless. If you have a knack for problem-solving and want to see your digital designs come to life as functional, complex systems, this is an industry that will value and reward your expertise. It’s a career where you can truly see the impact of your work.
What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week? I keep my radio on while I work. The background noise helps me stay focused and dive deep into intricate projects.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? When I started my career, there were few women working in the construction industry. The expectation was that we belonged only in administrative roles. My advice is to never let anyone limit your potential because of your gender. You can hold any role in this industry. Step into the room with confidence and let your work speak for itself. My best strategy for that confidence is to remain a perpetual student. The software and standards move fast, so stay proactive about learning. The industry has changed, and your potential is limitless.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity? I sit at a desk most of the day, so I find balance outside in my garden. Being in the sunshine can bring fresh perspectives.
Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know. I don’t care how old I get, I’m a big kid at heart! I love going to the beach and water parks.
