2026 Women in Construction: Mariah Gaudreau, Tecta America New England
Office Manager
Tecta America New England
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? This industry is different from any other I have ever worked in. Hard work and diligence are recognized and valued in such a straightforward way. The pressure of navigating office politics or requiring personal connections to move up, is non-existent. From my perspective, whether or not you have a college degree matters a lot less than your willingness to put in the effort. I would encourage you to not be intimidated, to apply for a position even if you’re afraid that you don’t know ‘xyz’. You might be surprised to find out that you absolutely belong in that job.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? Ask every question. Write down all your ideas. When everything is brand new to you, the point of view that you bring is totally unspoiled. Processes and procedures that no one even knows could be (or needs to be!) improved are sometimes most obvious at that time, before you get entrenched in doing it the way it has always been done. Don’t underestimate the significance of enthusiasm. And lastly, prepare to hear cuss words organically woven into normal conversation; you’ll get used to it.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity? Committing to a movie without checking my phone or folding laundry helps clear my mind and reenergizes me.
