Beacon Bank’s RI president Tsonos recognized with Ben Mondor Award for philanthropic commitment
Providence, RI Will Tsonos, Rhode Island president for Beacon Bank, formerly Bank Rhode Island, was recognized for his lifelong commitment to giving back to the Ocean State with an award that honors the philanthropic spirit embodied by the former owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The Ben G. Mondor Award was established by the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce to recognize a chamber member who, in addition to being a successful businessperson, epitomizes the phrase, “When a business does well, business does good.”
“Will leads with heart,” said Monika Zuluaga, president and CEO of the chamber. “His commitment to community service is both consistent and deeply sincere, driven by a passion for strengthening Rhode Island’s families, youth, businesses and future.”
“He has championed a culture at the bank that values people and invests in their growth, while encouraging employees to give back to the communities they serve,” she said.
Born in Cumberland, a longtime resident of Woonsocket, Tsonos has never lost sight of the communities that shaped him. His commitment to giving back is broad and personal, having supported numerous organizations and their boards, including: The Miriam Hospital Foundation; Boys & Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln; Rhode Island Commerce; United Way of Rhode Island; the City of Woonsocket Investment Board; Potter League for Animals; Amos House; Back to School of Rhode Island; and Read to Succeed. He is also a former board member, ambassador, and government relations chair for the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce.
“When I was younger, I had the opportunity to work for the Pawtucket Red Sox and see firsthand how Ben Mondor made the organization a powerful force for good. Those lessons have stayed with me,” Tsonos said.
“Strong communities don’t happen by accident,” he said. “They’re built through long-term commitment and shared responsibility. At Beacon Bank, we believe that lasting impact comes from showing up, staying involved and genuinely wanting to make a difference.”
In all, 26 of Beacon Bank’s 148 branches are located in Rhode Island, including locations in Cranston (4), Warwick (3), Providence (2), East Providence (2), Newport (2), Middletown (2), Coventry, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Wakefield, South Kingston, Westerly, Johnston, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Smithfield and Woonsocket.
