Woburn, MA The Gould Construction Institute (GCI) was selected as a recipient of a three-year, $225,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation through its highly competitive annual grant program.

The award recognizes GCI’s longstanding commitment to developing a highly skilled construction workforce and will support the Institute’s mission of preparing individuals for family-sustaining careers through industry-driven education, registered apprenticeship and employer partnerships.

“This grant funds the tools needed to both create the workforce we need to meet demand for construction professionals and make the American Dream a reality for many more families,” said Cummings Foundation executive director and trustee Joyce Vyriotes.

The Gould Construction Institute was selected from a highly competitive pool of Boston-area nonprofit organizations. In 2027, Cummings Foundation will distribute $35 million to 150 local nonprofits through multi-year grants.

“The Gould Construction Institute has always been committed to providing exceptional training that changes lives and strengthens Massachusetts’ construction workforce,” said Gould Construction Institute president Julie DeStefano. “This transformational investment by the Cummings Foundation will allow us to expand access to high-quality apprenticeship and workforce training, helping more individuals launch rewarding careers while providing employers with the skilled professionals they so urgently need.”

DeStefano also applauded the expansive philanthropic vision of Bill and Joyce Cummings, whose generosity has transformed the nonprofit landscape throughout greater Boston.

“Bill and Joyce Cummings have established an extraordinary legacy of giving back to the communities that supported their success,” DeStefano said. “Through the Cummings Foundation, they have demonstrated what it means to be outstanding corporate citizens. Their unwavering commitment to strengthening local nonprofits, expanding opportunity, and investing in people has improved countless lives throughout the Commonwealth.
