C.E. Floyd breaks ground at RiverWoods Durham

July 30, 2026 - Construction Design & Engineering

Durham, NH C.E. Floyd Company, a Massachusetts- and Connecticut-based construction planner and general contractor, has broken ground on a major expansion at RiverWoods Durham, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community. The groundbreaking took place on July 15.

The expansion includes 55 independent living homes across two buildings and a stand-alone community center with common spaces, dining services, and a wide range of social and recreational opportunities. Demand for the new homes was immediate, with all 55 reserved in only 11 days.

C.E. Floyd is honored to be a part of a project bringing more housing for seniors to the area. The expansion builds on RiverWoods Durham’s original campus, which sold out in just 29 days.

The RiverWoods Group engaged C.E. Floyd in 2024 to work alongside AG Architecture through the preconstruction process. The Conceptual Design phase focused on site utilization; building locations; building sizes; parking lot sizing, layout, and sighting; and utilities. As preconstruction progressed, C.E. Floyd provided other services including estimating and budgeting; logistics, phasing, and scheduling; value engineering; constructability reviews; and building envelope consultation.

C.E. Floyd’s Jeff Palmer spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony, addressing the company’s B Corp Certification and its commitment to benefiting all stakeholders, including employees, the community, and the environment. That commitment reflects a shared belief between C.E. Floyd and RiverWoods: real community is something people build together.

“Today we are celebrating what is possible,” said Natalee Belanger, executive director of RiverWoods Durham.

The Phase 2 project team also includes Greystone, AG Architecture, Colliers, and RDG Interiors.
