Hartford, CT The Connecticut Chapter of the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Institute will host an educational panel discussion, “Expanding Your Advisory Toolkit: Introducing Passive 1031 Strategies,” on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The REC. Designed for commercial real estate brokers, financial advisors, CPAs, and attorneys, the program delivers practical insights to help real estate investors transition away from active property management while optimizing tax-deferred growth, cash flow, and estate planning.

Attendees will gain actionable strategies to expand their client advisory solutions. The panel will explore how passive 1031 structures, including fractional ownership and professionally managed real estate opportunities, can effectively solve landlord burnout for aging or fatigued property owners. Attendees will learn to navigate complex tax deferral mechanics under Section 1031, evaluate institutional-grade replacement properties across primary sectors such as multifamily and self-storage, and structure the seamless transfer of fractional interests to heirs for long-term wealth preservation.

The expert panel features Brian Rivera, managing director of Veritas Group; Derek Mazza, division manager at Asset Preservation, Inc., and JD Altobello, managing director of DST Authority.

Rivera brings insight from an executive team with over $4 billion in commercial real estate transactions across 23 states. Mazza draws on over two decades of experience guiding New England advisors and investors through complex tax-deferral mechanics and replacement-property planning and Altobello specializes in passive replacement-property solutions designed to preserve investor cash flow while mitigating immediate tax liabilities.

The panel will take place at 160 Trumbull St. Admission is $15 for CCIM Connecticut Chapter members and $25 for non-members, which includes food and beverages. Advanced registration is required to attend.
